How to choose a heater for an Irish home
Start with the room, not the heater. Measure length times width: a small bedroom or box-room office is often 8–12 m², while a sitting room can be 15–25 m². Draughty windows, external walls and high ceilings all need more heat than the floor area suggests. See our bedroom and home office guides for room-by-room advice.
Next, think about running cost. A heater's cost per hour is simply its power in kW times your electricity price. At €0.35/kWh a 2kW fan heater costs about €0.70 an hour, an oil radiator €0.53–€0.88, and RapidHeat €0.14–€0.28. Lower power costs less but also gives less heat, which is why small plug-in heaters suit small rooms. Our cheapest way to heat a room guide compares the options.
Then pick the type. Ceramic heaters warm up fast and are compact; oil radiators give slow, steady heat for larger rooms; fan heaters are cheap to buy but costly to run. Read fan vs ceramic and RapidHeat vs oil heater for side-by-side tables.
Finally, check safety. Look for a thermostat, overheat protection and automatic shut-off, plug directly into a wall socket rather than an extension lead, and never use a heater without an IP rating in a bathroom. If you only need to heat one small room you are sitting in, RapidHeat is built for exactly that.

Common questions
What is the cheapest way to heat one room in Ireland?
For one small room you are sitting in, a low-wattage plug-in heater is usually cheapest to run. RapidHeat costs about €0.14 an hour on low and €0.28 on high at €0.35/kWh, compared with about €0.70 for a 2kW fan heater. Less power also means less heat, so it suits small rooms up to about 12 m².
Which heater is best for a bedroom?
A quiet heater with a thermostat and timer, such as a ceramic plug-in heater, suits most small bedrooms. Never leave any heater running unattended overnight. Our bedroom guide covers room sizes and safety.
Can RapidHeat heat a whole house?
No. RapidHeat is designed for one small room up to about 12 m². For a whole house or large open-plan room you need central heating or a larger heater.
Can I use a plug-in heater in a bathroom?
Not RapidHeat. It has no IP rating, so it must never be used in bathrooms or wet areas. Use a heater designed and installed for bathrooms.
How are your running costs worked out?
Every cost uses the heater's power in kW multiplied by an electricity price of €0.35/kWh. Your own bill depends on your tariff, the setting you use and how long the heater runs.
Where can I buy RapidHeat in Ireland?
RapidHeat is sold through the official Irish store at rapidheatie.com, with free delivery in Ireland and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
